Scotland: Old and New Myths of Identity (cours de Mme Manfredi)

 This part of the course is designed to:
- provide an introduction to issues of identity and (cultural) nationalism in modern Scotland
- introduce students to the changing perspectives and approaches to Scotland’s complex and changing identities
- demonstrate the issues at stake in the matter of representation, self-representation and political action in different social and historical contexts
Particular references will be made to the works of painters, writers, poets etc. operating within differing geographical and gender contexts.

 Irlande (cours de Mme Conan)

Après avoir proposé une analyse critique des termes de « représentation », « identité » et « anglo-celtique », ce cours aborde la construction de la nation irlandaise, tout d’abord par la naturalisation de ses paysages, et ensuite par l’élaboration d’une idéologie et d’une historiographie nationalistes. Dans un second temps, on étudiera l’impact de cette construction nationale sur le corps social irlandais, notamment sur les femmes.

Pays de Galles: Representation, misrepresentation : Perceptions et représentations du pays de Galles, XIXe-XXIe siècles. (cours de Mme Hellegouarc'h)

Le cours explorera les facettes de l’identité culturelle galloise et les facteurs qui l’ont fait évoluer au fil des derniers siècles : facteurs historiques, sociaux, linguistiques, économiques, mais aussi influences plus subjectives (perception(s) extérieure(s), enjeux de pouvoir, politiques culturelles et éducatives) qui ont modelé le pays de Galles et son image, déterminant la manière dont il s’est défini et continue de se définir, mais aussi dont il est perçu et représenté en dehors de ses frontières. Ces différents mécanismes et modes de représentation seront mis en lumière et illustrés par le biais de documents iconographiques variés et de textes.
